We've Been...

We've (the kids and hubby) been sick!  These last two weeks have been sleepless nights, high fevers, breathing treatments, double ear infections, nasty coughs and lots of snuggling.

BUT!!  There were a lot of other things going on too:)
Believe it or not, life goes on even when the family has the flu!

So we've been...
Pulling ourselves up onto furniture (at 7 months!!)

Crashing

Climbing

Eating lots of fresh eggs

Running

Having dirt road date nights with my man

Watching Peter Pan... Over and over

Getting ready for kindergarten

Doing some late night reading

Sick and pathetic:(

Doing yard work

Bonding with Sugar

Yes, life goes on... WAY too fast!

Our Ladies

Daddy came home from work today and finished up the coop because we found someone selling hens less the two miles away.

The coop might seem "ghetto" to some people, but can I tell you how much we spent on building this??
$0.
That's right, we spent nothing!  The pallets were given to us, and the rest of the stuff was laying around the property, waiting to be used.

Here are the ladies!  We got four Plymouth Rock year old hens.
Aren't they pretty?

The kids already love playing with them.  I am sure they will be named tomorrow.

Farm Fresh Strawberries

Yesterday we went to a local (and by local I mean 10min down the road) farm.  They are famous for the sweet corn, but since its not that season yet, they are open to pick your own strawberries.  We go to this farm all the time, but have never taken the time to pick.  Since we had nothing going on and Yammie just finished teaching for the year, we decided it was time to take her on a field trip!

This cost us absolutely nothing, we just had to pay for the berries we picked!  They gave the kids each a basket and a pair of scissors and sent us on our way.  They got the hang of it real fast and were running around trying to find the biggest and reddest berries.

The kids with their finds!  We sat and ate a few, while teaching Baby C how to sit up.  He is officially sitting now, unassisted for a few minutes... then he is not sure what to do so he just flops over.

While there, we also picked up some cherries, potatoes, onions, peas and asparagus.
We ate very well last night.

We finished off the evening with homemade strawberry shortcake.  Yummy!

This Weekend Happenings

Since Daddy was home yesterday, we started our weekend "chores" early. Since we have 10 acres to maintain, things can get put on the back burner for a while... as is the case with my garden boxes. This is what we accomplished yesterday...

Can you even tell there are garden boxes in there??

This is after Daddy mowed and used the weed eater... you can actually tell we have a garden! Ahhh, what a difference just that made!

While pulling weeds, we found this little (huge) guy. We let the kids check him out, and then through him back into our pond.

The boxes were weeded and tilled in preparation for the compost.

While me and the kids worked in the garden, Daddy got on the tractor to cut down the pastures. He came upon these pretty flowers, pulled them up and gave them to me to plant in our flower beds.

Speaking of flower beds. Check out my tulips:) Oh and the weeds all around them... I will get to those today!

Rowdy Girl! She is so sweet and finally beginning to calm down and move out of the puppy stage!
