Family Pictures

Last weekend we had Kathleen from Kathleen Galloway Photography over for a family photo shoot.
I hired Kathleen to do our birth photography in June, but wanted her to come to the house and meet everyone before then.
The photos turned out great!
You can see her blog post here of our session, and I will be posting more on my blog:)

Mommy Talk Tuesday {Sleep}

The Not So Secret Confessions of a Second Time Mom
This weeks topic: {Sleep}
Does your child sleep through the night? When did they start sttn? Do/did you sleep train? Tips for other moms or questions for other moms?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sleep, what's that??
I pretty much have been sleep deprived since Bubba Love was born a little over 5 years ago! If it isn't one kid that wakes up, it's going to be the other... or the other :/
Seriously though, it isn't that bad. From the start, we have always co-slept (bed shared) with our babies until they are about a year and then we switch them to the crib. Then they have free range to come into our bed if they need to, but usually by then they are ready to sleep alone most of the time.
Co-sleeping has worked great for us. Even though I still have to wake up with a newborn, I am getting much more sleep then if we didn't have our babies sleep with us.
To answer the questions...
Bubba Loves sleeps through the night. She has slept through the night since she was around a year, but would wake up to come into our room until about 4 months ago. Now she is completely in her room all night long! And no, we never sleep trained her, we just encouraged her to stay in her room.
Buddy Boy has always been a good sleeper, he started sleeping through the night at like 2 weeks old! I am not joking either, he would nurse all evening long and then pass out for the night. He started sleeping in his room at around a year also and didn't really care to come sleep in our room until recently (around the time Bubba Love started sleeping all night in her room). Now, he starts in his room and is almost always in our room by 2 or 3am.
Baby C is hit and miss. He was a good sleeper as a baby and then once we moved him into his crib, he has struggled. He wakes up at least once a night for a binky or to be held or to sleep with us. I am too tired to argue with him most of the time, so I just bring him into bed with me. I know the time is coming (very soon) that I will need to "sleep train" him to stay in his crib because the new baby is coming and I can't have them both in bed together! My plan is to try to sooth him while he is still in his crib. I won't pick him up but I will rub his back, give him a binky, sing to him, ect. I don't agree with the crying it out stuff, so I hope to help him figure out how to sooth himself with out making him feel like I have abandoned him.
Enough about the kids... how about Mama??
I LOVE to sleep. I am not sure if I am a natural sleeper or if I have just been so sleep deprived for so long that I really want to sleep all of the time. I go to bed soon after the kids go to sleep and I wake up at the same time they do. Also, on the rare occurrence that ALL the kids are napping at the same time, I will nap also. Those days are awesome... today was one of those days:)
Here is what I wake up to after naps:
I am a lucky Mama, I know!
Pregnancy Update ~ 30 Weeks
How far along: 30 weeks
Weight gain: 13lbs
Symptoms: None really. Just tired and taking life easy.
Food Cravings: Tacos from the taco truck! Seriously, it is out of control... I had to stop to get taco's after story time at the library yesterday.
Memorable moments: None that stick out:( I am SO busy with my other kids that I hardly ever think about being pregnant. It's only when people ask me how I am feeling or when I am having a hard time doing something because of my huge belly, that I think about baby #4.
Planning: Birth kit arrived yesterday and I am slowly getting all the other supplies together.
Emotions: I am not as emotional as the last post. I think I am too tired to get upset at people anymore! But we have had some exciting things going on the last couple weeks, so I am probably in a good mood because of that.
What I am looking forward to: My home visit with my midwives! In 11 days they come to visit me.
New Baby Goats
New additions to the homestead...
We brought them home last weekend.  They are about two months old, so they still need bottles once a day.  It is so fun to feed them!
In the morning when they want let out or at night when they want their bottles, they cry "maaaaaaa, maaaaaa".  So Daddy says I have two more kids calling me Mama.  Hehe, I don't mind it!
These two are still not named... I guess we are still getting to know them first.  But they are a new favorite for the kids.  Currently Bubba Love spends all of her free time out in their pasture playing with them.  Luckily, the goats think they are dogs and are enjoying the company.
Bubba Love The Ball Player
Bubba Love started T-Ball a few weeks back and last Saturday was her first game.
She was so stinkin' cute in her uniform, and she was so excited to show us all that she had learned!
Here she as at the opening ceremonies!
Up to bat for the first time.  She hit it right away and it went far:)
Her coach at first, helping her along.
Then at second, she ran into her best friend.  They chit chatted while we were trying to yell to her to pay attention!
Chit chatting again with another coach... this girl LOVES to talk.
We say she is our extrovert in an introvert family.
Daddy and Buddy Boy enjoying the game.
She was in the outfield and bummed because not many balls get that far.
Game face
Cutie.
Good game!
At this age, they don't keep score.  So it was fun to just watch the girls play.
She now has 3 games a week... yikes!  It's a lot, but since she isn't in school she is loving the socialization.
Mommy Talk Tuesday {Cloth Diapers}
Welcome back to Mommy Talk Tuesday!
The Not So Secret Confessions of a Second Time Mom
This weeks topic is {Cloth Diapers}!
 Do you cloth diaper? If not, why not? If so, what convinced you to switch to cloth? What do you love about cloth? What are is your favorite diaper or type of diaper? Any troubleshooting questions? Feel free to ask!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

YES I cloth diaper, it is one of my favorite... hobbies?! :/
I have been cloth diapering for just over 5 years!
It all started out when my mom offered to get me a diaper service for the first 3 months of Bubba Love's life.  My mom wanted me to cloth diaper because she didn't want all those chemicals on her new grandbaby.  I said whatever... that meant I didn't have to buy any diapers for the first 3 months!  Well when those months were over, I loved them so much that I couldn't switch.  But I also couldn't afford a service anymore (those things are expensive!).  So I bought my first set of prefolds and wraps, the super inexpensive ones that our parents used for us.  Those worked great for me and I loved them... I still have them and will most likely use the small ones on Baby #4.  But when I got pregnant when Buddy Boy, my father-in-law decided to buy me a whole new stash for Bubba & Buddy!  I was SO excited.  I had been wanting to try some AIO's and it was finally happening.  So we got 30 Bum Genious' and I have been using those ever since on all my kids.  Since then, I have bought random diapers on clearance or second hand, but really I love my BG's.
Over the last 5 years of cloth diapering, I have run into almost every CD problem you can.  Stink, yeast, hard water, absorbency issues, ect.  So if you have any questions, just ask:)

California Bill AB2109

Any other Californians out there??
This info is for you!
Next Tuesday April 17th @ 1:30 at the State Capitol there will be a hearing regarding bill AB2109.
Heard of it??
If implemented, this bill would require a doctors signature on the vaccine exemption form when enrolling a child into school.

Doesn't sound like a HUGE deal right?
WRONG!
What happens when your doctors personal opinions on vaccines don't match yours?
What happens when your child's doctor decides NOT to sign this form?
What happens to our freedom to make an informed decision on our own?
Our freedom to choose?
Our freedom to raise our kids how we see fit?

See what I am saying?  It is just the beginning!
The beginning of the government regulating what goes into our children's bodies and the beginning of the government overruling our rights as parents.

Regardless if you fully, delay, partial or don't vaccinate your children, this is important to you.  It is not just about vaccinations, it is about our freedom to choose and freedom to parent.
If this passes, what will come next?

If you want more information on the bill you can read about it:
&
Or watch a video: Here

If you are interested in doing something about this, please come to the hearing on the 17th to show your opposition.
If you are unable to attend, fill out or fax this form to
Assembly Member Bill Monning
Chair, Assembly Health Committee
Capitol Office:
State Capitol

Lastly, pass on this information.

Easter

Hope you all had a great Easter!

This Easter was so much fun.  Bubba Love is to the age where she really understands what Easter is all about!  It was great to hear all her questions about Jesus, our sins, and heaven!

This is Easter morning, we made resurrection rolls...

My little girl has such an imagination, but when it came to this she just couldn't wrap her head around the symbolism.
She told me "Mommy, the marshmallows just melted... Jesus went to heaven.  I don't get it"
Maybe next year:)

Easter Baskets!

Opening them before our guests arrived.  We don't do the Easter Bunny thing, so Daddy Bunny brought these!  Which really means Mama Bunny did all the shopping and prepping, and Daddy Bunny got to deliver and get the thanks.

We had lots of family and friends over for dinner and an egg hunt.

Baby C knew just what to do!

Everyone had lots of fun hunting and opening their treasures.

Spoiled baby even got some chocolate.

Peep cupcakes that one of Daddy's cousins made.

After a long day with no nap.  Baby C came in and crashed on the couch at 6!
Amazing, since this kid will only fall asleep in my arms or in his crib... tired boy:)

Mommy Talk Tuesday {Baby Weight}

The Not So Secret Confessions of a Second Time Mom
This weeks topic is {Baby Weight}
How did you / are you losing it?  Diet and exercise?
Are you happy where you are?  What are your goals?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
My weight has been a constant up and down for the last 6 years of my life.  I have been pregnant over half of that time and the other half I have been nursing.  Between those two things, I haven't really had to worry about my weight.
My main weight loss plan after having a baby is to nurse as long as possible and to stop eating all the sweets that I do during pregnancy.  With all the kids so far, it has worked out ok.
I also have tried Zumba (which I love) but it is really hard for me to go to a Zumba class, so I bought the Wii Zumba game and was using before I got pregnant this time.
After I have this baby, I am going to put some effort into losing weight.  This will be my last baby and I need to get "me" back.
I am looking forward to hearing what all you ladies have done!
The New Chicks
We got 8 new chicks a few days ago!
After loosing some of our laying hens last fall, I decided it was time to add to our flock.
So here they are a couple days old.  We have a few reds, a few yellows and a few blacks.
The kids are excited and want to love on them, but we are going to try to hold off until the chicks are a bit bigger.  Bubba Love already accidentally dropped one and they are really too young to recover from that, luckily that chicky is still doing fine:)
Here is their temporary home in the garage until they are bigger and stronger.
Many more chick updates to come!
Green Beans
These are my all time favorite green beans, and one of my favorite veggie/side dishes!
1-2lbs green beans, stemmed and cut into 1 inch pieces
1 container of mushrooms, sliced
Half a red onion chopped
1-2 tbsp olive oil
Heat olive oil on medium heat.
Add onions and cook until translucent.
Add mushrooms and continue to cook.
Steam green beans for 3-4 minutes.
Add green beans to onions & mushrooms.
Cook until desired consistency.
Pepper to taste.
Yummy!
Pregnancy Update ~ 27 1/2 Weeks
It's been a while since I have posted an update... I am hoping to change that!  Since things are getting towards the end and more changes seem to be happening, I am going to *try* to blog weekly about this pregnancy!
Anyways, here I am at 27 1/2 weeks.
I had a midwife appointment yesterday and I finally remembered my camera.
I seriously love my midwife and all that goes with homebirth!
Sometimes I wish I could stay pregnant forever, just so I can go to my prenatal appointments:)
Bubba Love has been the official "heart beat checker" since Baby C's first appointment, so of coarse she is for this baby also!
She says when she grows up she wants to be just like Tuesday (which is our midwife).
I can not be happier to set such a great example for my daughter.  I am almost positive she will not have any fears or doubts when it comes to having babies.  I can only hope that she will choose to birth her babies at home!
So here are some of my stats:
How far along: 27 1/2 weeks
Weight gain: 10lbs
Symptoms:  Right now I am just feeling pregnant when I try to lift things (like my kids) or when I am sleeping.
Food Cravings: Ice Cream... but I am pretty sure it's not a craving, more like I have an excuse to eat a lot of it:) Randomly, hot wings and corn chowder.
Memorable moments: The baby went crazy the other night, moving all over!  In the morning my belly had dropped.  It seems early, but then again I am short and don't have that much room.
Planning: So far, we have done nothing for this baby.  But really, all I need to do is get some clothes down from the attic and wash them and wash the newborn diapers.  Other then that, I don't do anything too special for a new baby:/
Emotions:  I have become really easily irritated lately.  I am not sure if it is me or stupid people... does that sum it up?  Haha!
What I am looking forward to:  Purchasing my birth kit soon.  I have already been buying the random things that I will need; like extra sheets, towels, bowls, ect. when I see them on clearance somewhere.  But having the birth kit seems to make it real.
I am also looking forward to going on a three day getaway with Daddy at the end of this month!  I love my kids, but I definitely need a little break before the baby comes.
Mommy Talk Tuesday {Nutrition}
Welcome back to Mommy Talk Tuesday!
Remember to grab a button, link up and spread the word.
The Not So Secret Confessions of a Second Time Mom
This weeks topic: {Nutrition}
What are your does and don'ts when feeding your family. Are there certain foods you don't allow? What are your family favorites? What dictates your food preferences? Is it cost, food value, taste, ect. Do you have any picky eaters? Lastly, post a recipe!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Family nutrition became very important to me about half way through my pregnancy with Bubba Love.  We were bringing a new life into this world and I thought it would be best if we did her the favor of giving her the best start.
We slowly changed from a "eat whatever taste good" family, to a "eat with a purpose" family.  We removed all junk food and processed food and replaced it with whole foods.  I started cooking from scratch and both Daddy and I enjoyed our meals more then before.
I became a little obsessive over what we could or couldn't eat.
Now with three kids and a busy schedule, I have found a happy medium.  We still eat organic and still eat mainly whole foods, but there are exceptions.  We get freezer meals at Trader Joe's because let's be honest... sometimes Mama doesn't want to cook!  We get already made snacks like granola bars and fruit leathers.  But MOST of the time the family get a home cooked, from scratch, whole foods kind of meal.
As for picky eaters, I didn't think I had any until I really thought about it.  Bubba Love is!  She doesn't like to try new things and most of the time we have to coax her to eat what we put in front of her.  But she usually will enough to make me happy and if there is dessert involved then she will eat it all:)  Buddy Boy will eat anything and everything.  And Baby C is coming around to the idea of eating more "people" food... for a while there all he would eat was bananas and pears!
We have lots of family favorite meals, but an all time favorite that I can always count on my kids eating is breaded chicken with mashed cauliflower potatoes and steamed broccoli.
Another favorite are these Oatmeal Fruit Bars.  I usually eat these for breakfast, but the kids like them for breakfast or snack or dessert or any other time of the day... they LOVE these!

2 cups whole wheat flour
½ cup ground flax seed
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon cardamom
½ cup (1 stick) organic butter - at room temperature
½ cup natural cane sugar
2 organic eggs
½ cup honey
¼ cup rice milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 small apple - peeled and chopped
½ cup goji berries or raisins
½ cup dates or apricots - chopped
1 cup chopped walnuts or almonds (optional)
1 ½ cups coconut
3 cups old fashioned organic oats

In a medium size bowl, stir together the flour, flax seed, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom.
In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and sugar until smooth. Add in eggs, honey, rice milk and vanilla and beat until smooth and consistent. Slowly add in dry mixture and mix together. Stir in oats, coconut, fruit and nuts.
Press the mixture into a cake pan. Bake 15-20 minutes in a 350-degree oven, or until knife comes out clean.
Let cool then cut into bars.
